A Study on the Standardization of Toothbrush for Korean.




Abstract
The objective of this study was to develop a theoretical model of toothbrush which could be effective and ideal in the control of oral hygiene for Korean. A total of 165 volunteers of which were divided into two groups, i.e., 9-12 age group and more than 20 age group for 82 (male 40 and female 42) and 83 (male 40 and female 43) respectively were recruited for this study. Full mouth study models from all participants were prepared from a detailed impressions and several parameters that appear to be important for the efficacy of toothbrush, i.e. the distance between teeth and the depth of interdental spaces, etc., were determined from the study models.

The conclusions obtained from this study were as follow;

1. The size of head of toothbrushes for children and adults were a range of 1.8 - 2.2 cm and 2.2- 3.4cm respectively.
2. The length between the top and base of V-shape trim of bristles of a toothbrush for children and adults were 2.8mm and 3.5mm respectively.
3. The appropriate angles of head and handle in the portion of neck of toothbrush for children and adults were 20¡Æ and 21¡Æ respectively.
